About the author: Katie Donohue is Vice President of Strategy and Operations at SpringFour
Let’s face it. We all struggle sometimes financially. Maybe you’ve had trouble keeping up with monthly bills, faced an unexpected home repair or medical expense, or had difficulty keeping up with expensive debt. Even if none of those apply to your situation, maybe you’re trying to put away more money for the future or a rainy day fund.
If so, you are not alone. Nearly half of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and could not afford a $400 unexpected expense.
The good news is that there are resources in every community to help. Sometimes all it takes is being connected to the right local organization. But knowing where to find them can be hard, and it can be tricky to know which organizations to trust.
That’s why my team at SpringFour has partnered with LendUp. We want to connect customers to free, trusted resources, located in their own communities. Check out the site here, or read on to learn more.
SpringFour’s mission is to connect people to local nonprofit organizations in their own community that can help them save in areas such as utility payments, grocery costs, finding employment, or assistance with high prescription costs, and many others. People across the country are finding solutions to their financial challenges from SpringFour referrals. Read the stories* below to see how some customers have already saved:
Despite having health insurance, Tom**, a middle aged man with chronic health issues, was paying more than $500 a month on prescription costs. Using SpringFour referrals, he’s now saving $300+ a month.
Beth**, a renter who was paying $290 a month in utility costs, followed SpringFour referrals to special programs offered by the utility company and government programs, including weatherization of her apartment. She dropped her utility costs to $104 a month, making her monthly rent much more affordable.
Mark**, a veteran, was _choosing between paying his mortgage and putting food on the table for his family each month. He now is able to do both after accessing local food savings through SpringFour referrals.
Mary** utilized a number of SpringFour referrals and found a variety of ways to help her budget. She was on a fixed income and had recently lost her part-time job. After following up with the suggested organizations, she saved about $100 a month on groceries, received $200 in assistance to bring her utility bill current, and was able to access prescription savings of $75 per month. In total she is saving $175 a month going forward (or $2,100 a year), and knows where to turn for utility assistance in the future.
These are just a few ways it’s possible to find financial savings through SpringFour referrals.
