We’re troubled by a number of reports of services pretending to be or work with LendUp, and we wanted to give you the knowledge and tools to protect yourself.
Here’s how the scam works: one of these fake services might call, text, or contact you in some other way, claiming to offer you a loan if you first send them a payment, typically with a pre-paid card; alternatively, they might disguise themselves as a collections agency, threatening legal action on a loan that you may or may not have ever had.
LendUp does not contact anyone who has has not called customers that have not applied for loans, never requires prepayment in order to receive a loan, and never threatens legal action during collections.
To protect yourself, follow these steps.
1) Check if you have a LendUp account.
If you have a LendUp account, you’ll be able to log in from our homepage. If you don’t have an account, you don’t currently nor have ever had a loan from us. If you are able to sign-in, you will be redirected to your dashboard where you can view any current or previous loan applications and/or loans, and their status. If you are unsure and would like to confirm your status with LendUp, please feel free to email us at email@example.com.
2) Find out who is contacting you.
If you receive any communication about your loan or application that you believe to be suspicious, fraudulent, or part of a scam, you should ask for the person’s caller’s information (such as phone number) before providing any information. In the event you do not recognize the phone number and address as being associated with LendUp or you have any concern, you should immediately contact LendUp at 1-855-2LENDUP or firstname.lastname@example.org and do not provide any information to the person who contacted you.
3) If you believe you’re a victim of identify theft, contact us.
If you think your identity has been stolen and someone has fraudulently applied for or received a LendUp loan using your information, please immediately contact email@example.com. Please include your name and phone number in your email, so we can reach out to you as soon as possible. You may also contact your bank and local law enforcement. In addition, you can contact the credit bureaus to determine if there are any unauthorized transactions on your report and how to correct them.

4) If you see suspicious activity in your bank account, contact your bank.
You can work with your bank to determine the legitimacy of the transaction, and any responsive actions that are necessary. You can also file a police report, and contact the credit bureaus to protect your credit report. Please note that LendUp transactions may be indicated by “LendUp” or “Flurish, Inc” in your statement. If you see unauthorized LendUp transactions in your account, please immediately contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and contact your bank.
To recap, here are the warning signs of a scam:
- You are required to make a payment before receiving the loan. (LendUp will never ask you to make any payment before you receive your loan funds.)
- You are contacted by someone attempting to collect payment for a loan that they claim is a LendUp loan, and a demand for payment is made using inappropriate language and/or threats, including threats of legal action. (LendUp does not employ these tactics, including the threat of legal action for collection purposes.)
- You are contacted by someone who misrepresents him/herself or the purpose of their contact his/her call and requests your personal or confidential information (such as social security number or banking information). This scam is commonly referred to as “phishing”. Always be sure that any information you provide is provided to a legitimate company and for legitimate reasons. If necessary, hang up the phone, do your homework and research before proceeding.
